Bias Summit

Bias is a pervasive part of our lives, often shaping our thoughts and actions without realizing it. We all carry biases. While our preferences for a favorite sports team or restaurant are harmless, implicit bias can influence how we relate to one another in ways that don't match our values or our call to follow Jesus. 

As people of faith, we are called to honor the dignity of every human being and build communities rooted in love, justice, and belonging. Recognizing our unconscious or implicit biases is an important step toward living more faithfully together. 

At the Bias Summit, we'll explore how bias shapes our lives, the different fomrs of bias, learn practical ways to recognize and interrupt it, and build stronger relationships across the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Joining us will be special guests Dr. Catherine Meeks, author of the new book, Bridging the River of Difference: A Proclamation of Unity in Resistance, and Heidi J. Kim, executive director of The Episcopal Coalition for Racial Equity and Justice.

This Summit is presented by the Beloved Community Commission and LGBTQ+ Ministries. 

REGISTRATION
Invitees: Anyone 13 and older who is interested in discussing bias and racial healing. All minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

COST:

  • $175/person for a single lodge with meals

  • $135 /person for a double lodge room with meals

  • $125 for cabin room with meals

  • $50 commuter

  • Other pricing available for rooms without meals and individual meals
