Please join us on Friday and Sunday evenings in St. Luke’s Parish House for Movie Night! This Summer we will gather in the Parish House at 6:30 pm and start the movie at 7:00 pm. Please bring your own refreshments to share.

Sunday, June 7 | Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
A highly acclaimed 2006 American tragincomedy film that follows a dysfunctional family on a 700-mile cross-country road trip to get their youngest daughter into a children’s beauty pageant.
Sunday, June 14 | The Emigrants (1972)
First of a two companion films. This monumental epic, from Director Jonathan Troell, charts a Swedish farming family’s voyage to America and details their efforts to put down roots in the beautiful forbidding new world. Stars Max von Sydow and Liv Ullman. In Swedish with English subtitles.
Friday, June 19 | The Manchurian Candidate (1962) Eerie, shocking, daring, mesmerizing, Cold War thriller. Angela Landsbury, and Frank Sinatra among others in an all-star cast. Considered by some as the most sophisticated political satire ever made.
Sunday, June 21 | The New Land (1973)
The second in the two-film saga concerned with a Swedish farming family’s plight, during the mid-19th Century, in the settling of America. In Swedish with English subtitles.
Sunday, June 28 | What About Bob (1992)
Bill Murray plays Bob Wiley, a troubled but lovable therapy patient who fears everything and seeks help from noted psychiatrist Dr. Leo Marvin, played by Richard Dreyfuss. Directed by Frank Oz.
JULY
Sunday, July 5 | Ruggles of Red Gap (1935)
Directed by Leo McCary. Charles Laughton as a stuffy British butler, Marmaduke Ruggles, who is traded in a poker game from an English Duke (Roland Young) to a wealthy and rowdy American, Egbert Floyd (Charlie Ruggles). Supporting cast includes ZaSu Pitts and Mary Boland. A charming, lighthearted classic, fit for the 4thof July.

Sunday, July 19 | Paper Moon (1973)
A very funny period film. Ryan O’Neil plays Moses Pray, a smooth-talking con man driving through Depression-era Kansas with a carload of deluxe Bibles, teamed up with Addie, a cigarette-smoking nine-year-old orphan (played by his daughter Tatum). Madeline Kahn gives a funny, neurotic performance as Trixie Delight. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich.
Sunday, July 26 | Sunshine State (2006)
A John Sayles directed drama about a fictional Florida island facing development, focusing on two women, Desiree (Angela Basset) and Marly (Edie Falco) as they navigate personal and community changes, exploring themes of race, class, and history. The ensemble cast includes Timothy Hutton, Mary Steenburgen, and Alan King. The film is known for its rich character study and commentary on the evolving identity of Florida.
Sunday, July 31 | Rebecca (1940)
A classic romantic psychological thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Joan Fontaine as a young woman who marries a wealthy widower (Laurence Olivier) and finds herself living in the shadow of his deceased first wife, Rebecca, whose memory is fiercely guarded by the sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson).
The film, based on Daphne du Maurier’s novel, was Hitchcock’s first American film and won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It’s known for its gothic atmosphere, suspense, and iconic performances.
