Deacon Nick Bates has served as the director of the Hunger Network since 2016, building on more than two decades of non-profit state advocacy and organizing on issues of hunger, poverty, and economic justice. He is a graduate of Capital University Law School and Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He is ordained to ministries of word and service as a Deacon in the ELCA.

Melanie is a lifelong Episcopalian growing up at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Louis, MO. Her nomadic spirit and love of Jesus led her to serve as a missionary in the Philippines as part of The Episcopal Church’s Young Adult Service Corps. Since her ordination to the priesthood, Melanie ha served three congregations: Church of the Epiphany in Washington, DC, Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Webster Groves, Missouri, and most recently, the Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park, Cincinnati.

Using the knowledge from their book, The Queer Allies Bible, as well as narratives fro the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals, NV Gay will educate us on the need for our allyship of the LGBTQIA+ community and provide us with the skills to put our allyship into action.
With an immense focus on empowering and uplifting marginalized communities; photographer, digital artist, educator, public speaker, and author of The Queer Allies Bible, LOVEbodly and Trans USA National Pageantry board member NV Gay of MX. Gay’s Creative Direction draws inspiration through their life experiences as a transgender individual. Their work explores topics of the human condition bolstered by the words and lived experiences of NV’s subjects. with intent on treasuring individualistic self-expression, NV exposes the raw wounds of prejudice and abuse, while advocating for the inherent beauty in being human.
