Senior Warden Update

Greetings from the Low Country of South Carolina! Kim and I, along with our Airedale Terrier, Preacher are spending several days at the beach. St. Luke’s and all its goings on are never far from our minds. Here is what I can share about the happenings at St. Luke’s.

Building and Grounds
Refurbishing the front of the church is continuing through the work of the Phillips company.  Cheek walls (retraining walls on each side of the steps)  have been removed, footers poured and walls being reconstructed. Existing steps will be redone in modern materials, but will look “original”. Bill Wilken and Keith Myers are working with the contractor so that the construction meets or exceeds our expectations. New handrails are required, and three companies have provided quotes ranging from $2500 to north of $10,000. We are still working through that. In addition, the old side rails will be cleaned and recoated. However, we will be without handrails for the next several weeks.

The church grounds will be mulched soon.  Our lawn “maintenance man” is Granville High School freshman Garrett Hinton.  And, as per normal, our Parishioner Dave Proctor will oversee the grounds. As a side note – if you need some help with work around your house contact Garrett.  He’s a great young man (740-419-9409).

Parish House immediate needs include repairing/painting existing windows and updating the Rector’s office. Several folks have approached us about contributing toward furnishings, carpeting and decorating. Your vestry is in conversation regarding the redecoration costs, how donations will be received and the best use of St. Luke’s money. If you’d like to be a contributor, please let me know (HzBig10columbus.rr.com or 614-600-0693).

Just a reminder – Keeping two historical buildings up to date and useable is a serious financial commitment.
