Get To Know Your Vestry 2024 Nominees

Karen Goodell is a professor of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University Newark. She conducts research on the ecology and conservation of native bees, teaches undergraduate biology, and mentors graduate and undergraduate students. 

Karen is drawn to community service, especially that related to environmental conservation. Prior to graduate school, Karen spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica. She currently serves as a board member on the Licking Land Trust and heads up the garden club in her neighborhood association.

In her free time, Karen enjoys cycling around Granville with her husband John Hunter (including riding multiple times in Pelotonia), spending time with her twin daughters, Nona and Penny (now seniors in college), hiking with her dog Theo, gardening, and baking bread.

Henry Zaborniak, Jr. - Millersport and Kim have been members of St. Lukes since early 2010. He and wife Kim are or have been involved with: Turkey Trot, Market Street Pantry, feeding the residents at St. Vincent and the women's shelter in Newark, assist with video live streaming, assisted with hospitality (coffee hours etc) and participated in Lenten suppers. Henry enjoys being a lector and chalicist. He has represented St. Lukes at Diocesan Conventions. From 1980 to 89 he attended St. John’s Episcopal in Bowling Green where he served a term on Vestry. From 1989-2009 he attended St. Andrews Pickerington where he served one term on Vestry. A few years ago, Henry served one term on St. Luke’s Vestry.  He and Kim own and operate Five Star Painting of Pickerington and New Albany which is a residential and commercial painting company. They employ 14 painters, two estimators and one project manager. Henry is a 1978 graduate of Ohio Northern University and obtained a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1983.
