Choral Evensong for All SaintsAduly Choir 2011
The Festival Choir of St. Luke’s Church, Granville, sang Choral Evensong
for All Saints
, a candlelight service of remembrance in memory of family and friends who have died. A reception followed the service. The choirs were directed by Scott G. Hayes, and accompanied by guest organist, Dr. John Schuder, from St. John Lutheran Church in Grove City. Works in the service included settings of evening canticles based on ancient plainsong chants and arranged by Healey Willan; a setting of the prayers by the 16th century William Smith; and anthems by contemporary composer Egil Hovland and early 20th century Irish composer and teacher Charles Wood.  Scott G. Hayes will played a prelude featuring music of French composers and organists Jehan Alain and Marcel Dupré.

One participant made the following comment:

“…Thank you for the opportunity and the organ preludes/postlude. I have NEVER before seen a congregation stay seated FIRMLY in their seats listening to the postlude the way they did yesterday…the faces of the congregation clearly indicated appreciation!”
