Choral Scholars

St. Luke’s Choral Scholars is a mixed eight-member choral ensemble of college students who have an interest in sacred music performance and in building a sacred music choral repertoire. The purpose of this ensemble is to give opportunities for professional development to young musicians whose careers may involve sacred music performance.

The Choral Scholars exists both as an independent ensemble and as section leaders in a supporting role to St. Luke’s other choirs. When singing with St. Luke’s Choristers Choir, they provide the lower parts to the ensemble (alto, tenor, bass), as well as being mentors for the younger singers.

Participation requires a commitment to church music ministry (in this case, singing in a church choir). While an advantage, choral singing in a liturgical context is not a prerequisite to participate in this program. Choral Scholars should read well and sing intelligently. A short audition/interview with the music director ensures that the student will be compatible with the group, both musically and socially.
