Music
Music is an integral part of our worship at St. Luke's, bringing together the voices of each worshipper in an offering of praise and thanksgiving to God.
Led usually by a choir and organist (often including other instrumentalists and singers), the song of the people enable the "full, conscious, and active participation ... demanded by the very nature of the liturgy (The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 14)."
St. Luke's Choirs
St. Luke's offers a vibrant multi-generational choral music program in the Anglican tradition. The primary ministry of the choirs, and of all choirs in the Episcopal Church, lies in their role as leader, supporter and teacher of the congregation in the singing of the hymns and service music. Additionally, the choirs serve as model and teacher for the congregation in liturgy and worship.
The choirs also offer choral voluntaries, the repertoire being drawn from all musical periods. Anthems from England and America form the core, and music of other nationalities and times are included for balance.
The choir season runs from the Sunday after Labor Day until the end of the school year in May.
St. Luke's currently has four choirs:
Choristers Choir – This children's choir, following in the centuries of old Anglican choral tradition, is open to boys and girls in grades 2 through 12 who have an interest and can make the commitment of time.
