Dear Members and Friends of St. Luke’s,
Let me begin this letter to you with words spoken by Dorothy at the end of the movie, The Wizard of Oz: “if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any farther than my own back yard. . . .”
It’s my great pleasure to announce that I have asked Steve Trumbull, who has served as our Interim Choirmaster since February 1, to join St Luke’s staff as Director of Music, and, further, that I have asked Denita Strietelmeier, who has led the Choristers Choir during the same time period, as Choirmaster for the Choristers Choir. Both have accepted these appointments and begin their work today…

St. Luke’s offers a vibrant multi-generational choral music program in the Anglican tradition. The primary ministry of the choirs, and of all choirs in the Episcopal Church, lies in their role as leader, supporter and teacher of the congregation in the singing of the hymns and service music. Additionally, the choirs serve as model and teacher for the congregation in liturgy and worship.
The choirs also offer choral voluntaries, the repertoire being drawn from all musical periods. Anthems from England and America form the core, and music of other nationalities and times are included for balance.
The choir season runs from the Sunday after Labor Day until the end of the school year in May.
St. Luke’s currently has four choirs:
Choristers Choir – This children’s choir, following in the centuries of old Anglican choral tradition, is open to boys and girls in grades 2 through 12 who have an interest and can make the commitment of time.
St. Luke’s Choir – This mixed adult choir is comprised of members of the Parish and other interested singers. The choir sings a variety of sacred choral music and greatly values the opportunity to serve the Lord through music.
Festival Choir – Individuals who enjoy singing, but cannot make a long-term commitment, are invited to sing in the Festival Choir. Joining St. Luke’s other choirs, the Festival Choir usually sings Evensong in the fall and a Requiem on Good Friday in the spring.
Choral Scholars – This is an eight-member choral ensemble of students from Denison University. The Choral Scholars exists both as an independent ensemble and as section leaders in a supporting role to St. Luke’s other choirs.
